Fleet Manager

Introduction

The Fleet Manager is a tool for Iguana Enterprise which is designed to help you manage all of your Iguana instances from one central location.

The Fleet Manager is really made up of two different components, one is the Fleet Manager Dashboard, and the other is the Universal Log Viewer. The Dashboard runs by itself from a set of channels that are imported to Iguana. The Universal Log Viewer requires a backend PostgreSQL database to be installed in order to store all of the logs from each Iguana.

Adding Instances [top]

The Fleet Manager dashboard makes it easy to start monitoring your existing Iguana instances right away.

  1. Make sure you are on the Dashboard, if not then click the Servers link in the top right corner.
  2. Click the green Add Existing Instance button in the bottom right corner.
  3. You’ll need to enter the following parameters:
    • The instance name (this is something you can enter for organizational purposes)
    • The URL to the instance
    • The administrator Username for that instance
    • The administrator Password for that instance

Assuming you have entered all of the parameters correctly, the instance of Iguana should appear in the Fleet Manager dashboard.

Note: When you add an instance of Iguana to the Fleet Manager Dashboard, the Fleet Manager will automatically deploy a channel out to that instance. This channel is responsible for feeding that Iguana’s logs into the Universal Log archive database so that they can be seen in the Universal Log Viewer.

Viewing Resource Data [top]

  1. Select Servers from the menu at the top of the window.
  2. Click the drop down arrow next to the server name that you are interested in.
  3. A pane will drop down displaying real time data for that particular server, including:
    • Disk Usage
    • CPU Usage
    • RAM Usage
    • Active Database Connections
    • Inbound and Outbound Port Connections
    • Queue Counts
    • Thread Counts
    • Open File Counts
  4. To be able to see this data graphed over time, select the View Details link in the data pane:
    • Here we can see a selection of graphs of the resources mentioned above.
    • To change the time period viewed in the graph, use the calendar drop-downs to select the start and end periods over which you would like to measure.
    • Once you have the desired date range, click View.

Universal Log Viewer [top]

As mentioned earlier, when an instance of Iguana is added to the Fleet Manager dashboard a channel is deployed to that instance which will feed its logs into the Universal Log Archive. The log files that are stored in the archive can be viewed in the Universal Log Viewer.

  1. To access the Universal Log Viewer, select the Logs link in the top right corner.
  2. The ULV will display all logs that are stored in the archive. This includes logs from instances that are no longer being managed in the Fleet Manager, or instances that have since been deleted.
  3. On the right hand side are all the various ways in which you can filter the logs:
    • Text search (note this field does NOT support regex)
    • Iguana server (particular server that you want to view logs from)
    • Channel
    • Date Range
    • Message Type
